The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

It’s OK to be Honest

Sometimes we think that we can never have doubts and never make any mistakes with God. We think that he is only looking for us to be good and say the right thing. But Jesus reminds us that it’s OK to be honest. It’s OK to share our worst thoughts and feelings. It’s OK to be angry with God or to have doubts. In fact, the largest book of the Bible is full of songs of people who were frustrated with life, full of doubts, and sometimes angry with God. Jesus can take our worst. Not only that, he actually prefers that we be honest rather than be perfect. That’s good news because none of us are perfect. We all need God’s understanding. What do you need to tell God honestly today? Why don’t you try to share it with him, even if it’s a little ugly. Jesus will understand and be with you as you share.
